Bild-Werk: Deep into the Glass with Jiři Tesař

July 5 - July 21

The course uses classical engraving techniques on the engraving lathe whilst seeking a contemporary style. Engraving the glass using different wheels will leave deep incisions and fine lines in the glass. We may take our inspiration from nature, from the human figure, or from a favourite book. Or we may tell a story and find illustrations that way. We may even work together on a small group project. We can engrave any type of glass, flat window or coloured glass, blown forms, even found glass.
The course is suitable for all categories – beginners, advanced and professionals.
Jiři Tesař (b. 1960 Česká Kamenice/CZ) studied Glass Engraving at the Secondary School of Applied Arts at Železný Brod, before working at Crystalex – EXBOR as a glass engraver. Subsequently he worked for 12 years as an engraving teacher at the High School for Glass in Nový Bor. Since 1979 Jiři Tesař has also worked as a professional freelance glass engraver. With his work, he tries not only to keep classic engraving techniques alive in a modern concept, but also to develop them.
