Bild-Werk: Finding your own Voice with Nancy Sutcliffe

August 2, 2017 - August 18, 2017

This course offers the opportunity to fully explore the potential of drill (dremel) engraving.
We will look closely at form, texture, tone and design whilst transferring our own unique images onto glass. Using this modest tool with diamonds, stones and polishers we will draw on glass, making gentle marks that barely brush the surface, to deep intaglio carving.
Working in the spirit of experimentation on a variety of glass forms, we will concentrate on developing our own individual style while gaining confidence in the technique and an understanding of three dimensional illusion.
Bring your sketchbook as drawing will be key to this process, either from life or your imagination.
Open to all levels.
Nancy Sutcliffe (b. 1957 Brighouse, UK) came to glass engraving after a degree in design and career as a medical illustrator. The figure remains her principal subject matter and recent work explores our emotional connections and common bonds. Nancy exhibits internationally and has work in private and public collections. She is an elected Fellow of the British Guild of Glass Engravers.
