North Lands Glass: Layers of Landscape with Heather Gillespie
June 5, 2017 - June 9, 2017£650
Heather Gillespie is returning to the Highlands to move engraving out of the studio and into the landscape. Her class will take inspiration directly from nature and the local scenery of Helmsdale and transfer it onto glass by mark making there and then. Glass will be worked with diamond and copper wheel, stippled, cut and abraded. Using clear, coloured, flashed and cameo plates printing from the engraving will also form part of the class.
Application Deadline: 17th April
Scottish and Scottish-based artists in need of financial assistance can apply to the Creative Scotland Open Project Fund. Applications can include travel and accommodation expenses. Click here to find out more. Alternatively, artists can seek support from other relevant trusts and foundations.
The course will be led by the Heather Gillespie, a copper wheel engraver based in Cumbria, Heather was one of the four original participants of the Forest of Glass residency based on the North Coast of Scotland and since that time has continued to push the boundaries of “wild engraving”, continually taking the discipline out of the studio and into the landscape looking for a more visceral and immediate response to engraving the natural world.
