In-Between Hot Glass: Graal Symposium @ Frauenau

Published by Ainsley Francis on

This year is the 100th anniversary of modern of Graal! 100 years ago at Orrefors Glassworks in Sweden, Knut Bergqvist and Simon Gate began working with ancient overlay techniques, putting decoration between layers of glass. Most commonly this is an engraving technique, where a cold blank is engraved, and the picked up in the hot shop to be gathered over with more hot glass and blown and shaped after the engraving, but many artists are applying it to other glassmaking techniques with stunning effects.
In honour of this anniversary, Bild-Werk Frauenau and the Glass Museum will be hosting a Graal Symposium. It will include a Colloquium on October 30th, followed by experimental masterclasses, applying a wide variety of techniques and ideas to Graal.

Today is the last day to get the early-bird registration price for the Colloquium on October 30th, so make sure to go to to register. You can find the application from on the right side of the Contact+Info page. You can also find information about the Master Classes and how to register.
